Rocky Lockridge, born Rick ‘Rocky’ Lockridge was a professional boxer from the United States. Arguably, he is best known for handing Roger Mayweather his first defeat.

A match that ended via knockout in the 98th second of the first round. The victory earned him the WBA and lineal super featherweight titles. He was a former IBF super featherweight title.

He started walking with a cane as a result of a stroke that he suffered.  Lockridge was interested in becoming a trainer to boxers prior to his death.

On the 7th of February in 2019, he passed on following a series of strokes. Prior to his death, he was placed in a home hospice due to the strokes. He was removed from life support about a week before his death. He was sixty years old at the time of his passing.

Lockridge started boxing as an amateur. He trained and boxed out of the Tacoma Boys Club. He was one of four champions who hailed from Tacoma. In his amateur career, he won the 1977 National AAU Bantamweight title. Rocky was the 1978 National Golden Gloves Runner Up in the Bantamweight division. In addition, he was the 1978 Runner Up in the National AAU Championships in the Bantamweight division. Unfortunately, he was beaten in the World Amateur Boxing Championships quarter-final stage. The competition was held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

Lockridge was featured on A&E’s Intervention TV series. In the show, he was conversing with his sons who wanted him to get clean and stay off the drugs. The conversation led to his breakdown and he started wailing uncontrollably. This, in turn, led to the birth of the ‘best cry ever’ meme.
